Why did we use the word Atha on our SYL t-shirts?
Atha, translated as ‘now’, is a word that is used as a wake-up call in Indian scripture and mythology. It is most widely known and used in the opening line of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, one of the most revered and studied texts of yoga philosophy, atha yoga anushasanam, which translates as ‘now begins the study and practice of yoga’. Atha at once wakes us up to the practice of yoga, the practice of life, but also brings us back to the place of moment to moment awareness. Now.
At SYL we feel we do both. We wake you up to your life by saying ‘Now, here is how you practice!’ and then ‘By practising, notice this moment, here, now…’ Atha is a powerful reminder to return to the breath, to this moment, and discover again the power of being alive.
*Lyocell is a form of rayon which consists of regenerated cellulose fibre made from dissolving pulp (bleached wood pulp) using dry jet-wet spinning.
